Regional goods are souvenir items that are meant to be found only in certain areas within Japan. They are made for a plethora of different series, not just Pokémon, and in general, they are very popular in cities and attractions frequented by tourists due to their function as souvenirs. Typically, these goods represent regional specialities of the areas within which they are found. For example, the Osaka Mijumaru is wearing a takoyaki hat and siting on a Pokéball takoyaki since Osaka is famous for its takoyaki. Nifty!

Though many regional goods of Pokémon have come an go over the years, Mijumaru was first featured in a collection that released on December 15, 2012. Meowth, Eevee, and Pikachu also shared in this honor, and together they represented Hokkaido, Sendai, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka through their various goods. The second wave of this same set of regional goods was released at the end of April 2013, this time representing Kyoto, Hyogo, Nara, and Okinawa. Each Pokémon for each city had 6 goods associated with it - a pair of socks, a hand towel, a pen, a pencil, a phone jack, and a phone strap. Mijumaru has 66 individual items because of this, making it a difficult collection to complete! Additionally, toothbrushes, postcards, pencil caps, and sticker sheets were released at various stages after the initial two waves of this set of regional goods. Talk about a challenge!

Years later, Mijumaru was also featured in Volume 2 of the Pokétabi Yokohama Collection Can Badge Series - what a lovely thing that my otter has been featured again in Pokémon's regional goods!
